Target your website’s SEO to your target customers

August 2, 2011 by Marc Leave a Comment

Most SEO articles just deal with SEO and don’t focus on the real reason that should be driving any SEO effort .. your target customer.  All your SEO efforts should initially be directed by an understanding of your target market and its different customer search personas.  Then using that “ground work” to effectively attract the customers you want through well conceived SEO optimized content.

This is a great article “5 Steps to Building a Search Persona” by Erez Barak which works through how to develop a search persona that you can use for SEO efforts to increase your online sales.  The article provides excellent how-to steps and examples.  Put it in practice and it will help you increase traffic and sales.

If you have any questions or want assistance leave a comment or send an email.  I am happy to help.

Temporary Landing Page for SEO Jumpstart

September 12, 2009 by Marc 4 Comments

It will often take a month or two or more after you get your domain name before you will have your final website. And it is not unusual for another month our two after that before your site is indexed. But as I have written before you can use that time to get your domain well indexed in search engines and even test some of your content.

Rather than let your hosting company leave up its standard “under construction” or “coming soon” default page or an image of your logo, put up a simple WordPress blog with just a post or two of your basic content and a little about your business and contact info. This will shorten the time until it is indexed and greatly improve your site’s search recognition.

TECH 5 temp landing page

Recently (today) I took some time and did just this for a friend and his new telecommunications company, TECH 5.

His logo was done and he asked if I could replace the standard Network Solutions “coming soon” page with his new logo. I went a little further, I installed WordPress, uploaded the Atahualpa theme and a few plugins (cforms, All-in-One SEO and Google XML Sitemaps). Then added the logo and some content (that they already had put together for the new business) and voila … a temporary landing page that announces the new business with some major SEO mojo.

Admittedly it is not as pretty as the finished website will be, but it puts all the needed info out there right now in an easy to modify format, SEO optimized and it will make sure that the final website, when it is done, will enjoy as strong as possible search results from its first day on the domain.

If you have any questions feel free to send an email or leave a comment.

“Socializing” with your website visitors works! A Bottom Line Income Increase from using Social Media

July 31, 2009 by Marc Leave a Comment

The words “conversion” and “conversation” seem very similar to me. Plus I have never experienced converting anyone from a lead to a client without having a conversation. So if you can give your website the ability to engage in “conversation” or a dialog with site visitors you should have more conversions and increased business, right? Yes, it is true and here is a study with the proof!

The new research from social media platform Wetpaint and digital consulting firm Altimeter Group found that companies with the highest levels of social media activity on average increased revenues by 18% in the last 12 months, while the least active saw sales drop 6% over that period.

Among the top 100 brands reviewed, Starbucks came out on top with a score of 127, followed by Dell (123), eBay (115), Google (105), and Microsoft (103). Companies were scored based on the level of interaction across 10 social media channels including blogs, Facebook, Twitter and wikis.

Which is why I build websites using WordPress as the underlying site platform! It not only provides the most effective, best blog format, it is also the best for being a central hub managing Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and even MySpace. So instead of frantically keeping all your your social media appearing with fresh information you can just use your WordPress based website to manage it all.

plate spinners 300x217 Socializing with your website visitors works! A Bottom Line Income Increase from using Social Media

No need to be a “mad plate spinner” constantly going from one social media site to another every day to post new information to have a wide social media presence.

A WordPress based “dialog website” with the other social media channels integrated will allow you to have a smooth relaxed but constantly current social media presence, with less time involved. Like a gear driven clock-work, except with Twitter, Facebook and the others driven by a WordPress based dialog website.

And it gives you a competitive advantage helping to increase your bottom line. To learn more about how I may help you increase your business and social media presence with a WordPress based dialog site, just send me an email through the form on the right.

How to choose the right content keywords for maximum organic search traffic

June 16, 2009 by Marc 1 Comment

Wouldn’t be nice to know what words/phrases get the most search engine traffic for your competitors?

One of the problems with maximizing your organic search results traffic is that it is difficult to know what words or phrases will increase your traffic. But having an insight into what gets the most search traffic for your competitors or similar businesses in different markets could be very helpful.

Fortunately that insight is available, … and it is free and simple! Here is how you do it.

Go to Alexa.com/siteinfo (http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo). On that page use the “Site Lookup” function, enter the URL of the site you want info about, click “Go”. Then when the next screen loads you will see a series of tabbed options, click on “Keywords” to get a ranked list of “Search Terms Driving Traffic” for the site URL you entered.

Now just make note of the top traffic driving terms, compare to your own and then use those relevant terms throughout your site content as you describe your services and experience. That is all there is to it.

"I can start thinking reducing my adwords month payment"

February 19, 2009 by Marc Leave a Comment

All the websites I do are based in the same technology and implemented with the same skill and crafting. It takes extra time and planning, but it is what works! Personally configured and installed by me, my website services are always designed to return the highest possible internet search marketing results for your particular business And for the lowest ongoing cost.

Below is an email message I received today from Tiago Valente, a Lisbon, Portugal based wedding photographer, who became a website client of mine just last month. His website is based on the same technology and implementation care I use for Real Estate brokers and agents.

He is getting fantastic Google results! Especially compared to his old website from just a month ago. So consider having me improve your web marketing and reduce your costs, like I have for Tiago.

——– Original Message ——–

Hi Marc,

My site placement evolution has been fantastic! From far, far away in google page with my old site (only in first page with adwords), I’m now in the first page in some keywords search. This is top ten!!

Here are the search words and results. For me this means that I can start thinking reducing my adwords month payment icon smile "I can start thinking reducing my adwords month payment"

Results:

  • Fotografos profissionais casamentos (wedding professional photographers) in 3rd place – 1st page!!!
  • Fotografos profissionais (professional photographers) 6th place -1st page
  • Fotografo casamentos (wedding photogrpahers) 13th place – 2nd page

Like I told you before I do not know what to say, I was not expecting such results in the first months or first year.

With my best regards,
Tiago Valente

It has taken me ten years to develop the skills to get results for my clients like this in just one month. Makes me recall this quote from the A-Team -

How to write with “effective keyword density”

December 15, 2008 by Marc 1 Comment

Often you will find a reference that SEO experts know how to write content for your website with effective keyword density. Well you can, too. Just include the details. The who, what, when, where, why and how. I never imagined that my high school Compositionenglish comp How to write with effective keyword density class teacher was trying to train us in SEO, but it turns out she was. Be as explicit as possible and your website will have many more search engine referral visitors.

To get you started, here is a simple example

Bad – “I was doing a session for a client at a really nice nearby location. It was beautiful. (nothing here, who will search “nearby location”?)

Good – “As a Nashville based wedding photographer I have developed a fondness for the Hermitage and that was the location for last Saturday’s wedding. The couple had decided to be have their wedding ceremony outdoors in the Hermitage’s beautiful garden. I just had to share a few photos of Sue and Steve, what a beautiful couple.” (look at all the search phrases; “Nashville wedding photographer”. “Hermitage”, “outdoor wedding ceremony”, “garden wedding” and for the couples friends “Sue and Steve”.

To share the needed detail to create keyword density takes a little more writing, but it will give you some special Google mojo.

META Keywords tag will not help a Flash website

August 8, 2008 by Marc 4 Comments

In fact it won’t help any website.

I recently had an email from a Flash website owner who said that his website designer assured him that the META Keywords tag would help overcome a Flash site’s search engine weakness. Sadly, no.

Despite some SEO hype types, in reality the META Keywords tag is DEAD. Yep, dead … and has been for half a decade.

keywordsmetatombstone1 META Keywords tag will not help a Flash website

Danny Sullivan founder of Search Engine Watch first shared that fact with us in Oct 2002. More recently, Jan 2008, the Editor of Technologyevangelist.com expanded on the Keyword tag’s death, why search engines quit using the Keywords tag to rank search results and related a perspective regarding a friend of his website. And there is even this item from the Search Engine Guide Blog on why the only beneficiary of using the Keyword tag could be your competition.

So use the Keywords tag it if you want. But don’t pay for it, don’t spend much time on it and realize that it serves much less functional purpose than your appendix.

UPDATE – 12-10-08

There is still people out there “selling” the keywords tag as a SEO tool. And the keywords tag is as dead as ever. Here is another report showing the reasons not to use the keywords tag … in video, by SEO specialist Dr. David Kyte.
